Arun K NIGAM – Senior Consultant

Arun Nigam has over thirty years legal practice in England, Hong Kong and Singapore and is qualified to practice English, Hong Kong, Indian, Australian and Singapore law.

Arun has a wide range of experience in capital markets, structured finance, general banking, syndicated lending, pre-IPO financing, asset and project finance, debt restructuring, funds, trustee and corporate and commercial work in Europe and Asia including drafting innovative financing, corporate and commercial documents for crossborder transactions.

Arun was born in London of Indian and German parents and educated at St Paul’s School, London and Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge University.  He has global legal experience working with leading international law firms and was a partner with Baker & McKenzie and Freehills in Singapore.  He worked with Norton Rose in London after qualifying as a solicitor and was a Senior Consultant with Sidley Austin in Hong Kong for over nine years.

  • His capital market practice has in particular focused on trustee advisory work on structured finance and capital market transactions including advising various trustee parties on Regulation S and Rule 144A transactions in Korea, India, Taiwan and other Asian countries.  Since 1982, he has been active in doing Indian transactions including representing arrangers, issues and trustees on GDR and FCCB issues.

     

    He has extensive knowledge of the Indian markets and influential contacts with many Indian and overseas leading law firms, banks and investment houses and is well respected in the financial and legal communities in Hong Kong and Asia.  He also has strong working relationships with top law firms in India and China (including a PRC firm which specialises in areas such as mining and natural resources, media and telecommunications, employment, and outbound investments from China).
